IU-Kansas game moved to University of Hawaii campus #iubb

Indiana and Kansas are still set to meet in Hawaii this November.

Just not at the venue where they were originally scheduled.

ESPN announced Thursday that IU’s season opener against the Jayhawks in the Armed Forces Classic has been moved from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam to the Stan Sheriff Center on the University of Hawaii campus in Honolulu.

Essentially, the move was made to accommodate more fans at the 10,300-seat on-campus arena. The game was originally scheduled to be played on the base at Bloch Arena, which has a seating capacity of 4,024.

“ESPN is honored to continue the tradition of the Armed Forces Classic, ESPN vice president of events Clint Overby said in a statement. “We celebrate the men and women of the Navy in Hawaii as well as those who serve around the world. We are excited to stage the event in conjunction with the leadership at Pearl Harbor and feel that the basketball venue at the Stan Sheriff Center provides a great backdrop for these great teams.”

The Armed Forces Classic will be played on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11 and feature Arizona vs. Michigan State in the 7 p.m. Eastern opener, followed by IU and Kansas at 9 p.m.

The game comes just under a month from the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
