Coaches rank IU No. 12 in preseason poll

Coaches around the country have high expectations for Indiana.

The Hoosiers debuted at No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, which was released on Thursday morning. IU is one of five Big Ten teams to crack the top 25.

At No. 9, Michigan State is the highest-ranked conference team, followed by No. 10 Wisconsin. Purdue is No. 15 and Maryland enters the season at No. 21. Michigan and Ohio State are among the teams to also receive votes.

Duke is ranked No. 1 and Kansas, IU’s opponent in the season opener, is No. 2. Defending national champion Villanova opens at No. 3.

North Carolina, which visits Assembly Hall as part of this year’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 30, is ranked No. 6. Louisville, IU’s New Year’s Eve opponent in Indianapolis, is ranked No. 14.
