Indiana is slotted at No. 16 in the preseason KenPom.com ratings released Sunday night.
The Hoosiers are the fifth-highest rated Big Ten team in KenPom’s database, following No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 13. Ohio State — what! — No. 14 Michigan State and No. 15 Purdue.
According to KenPom, Indiana’s predicted record is 22-9 overall and 11-9 in the conference. IU opens with the seventh-best adjusted offense in the nation, and the No. 50 adjusted defense. The Hoosiers closed last season with the No. 6 adjusted offense and the No. 59 adjusted defense.
As expected, IU’s highest-rated non-conference opponents are No. 3 Kansas, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 9 Louisville and No. 19 Butler. Fort Wayne is next highest at No. 126.
Four of Indiana’s non-conference opponents are ranked in the 300s — SIU Edwardsville (300), Southeast Missouri State (313), Delaware State (335) Mississippi Valley State (336).
