No. 23 Indiana defeated Vanderbilt, 94-61, in what was a physical contest at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday.
Vanderbilt committed 29 fouls, and the Hoosiers hit 22-of-29 free throws. IU (2-0) was also able to force 22 Commodore turnovers and finished with a 30-17 advantage on points off turnovers and 13-4 on fast-break points.
Alexis Gassion had a game-high 22 points, while Amanda Cahill 17, Tyra Buss, 11, and Amanda Deane, 10, all finished in double figures. After hitting 31.3 percent of their shots in the first quarter, IU hit 50, 61.5 and 71.4 percent in the final three quarters, respectively.
