Australian punter commits to IU’s 2017 class

An Australian punter is the first commit of the Tom Allen era.

Haydon Whitehead announced his verbal commitment in a Twitter message on Thursday morning, giving Indiana its 16th member of the 2017 recruiting class.

According to Inside Indiana, Whitehead will enroll for the spring semester.

Whitehead would not be IU’s first Australian punter. Tyson Beattie, an Attadale, Australia native, lettered at Indiana from 2003 through 2006.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

  1. I don’t know if this is a scholarship position but I hope it is. One area I think coach Wilson didn’t commit enough to were the kickers and punters. Using walk-ons is a constant gamble and the field position along with points scored are too important to leave it up to chance. I would love it if coach Allen gives scholarships to kickers and punters.
