IU moves up to No. 9 in latest Associated Press poll

Indiana has the two most impressive wins of the season.

Its latest was enough to vault the Hoosiers back into the top 10.

IU opens the week at No. 9 in the latest Associated Press Top 25, which was released Monday afternoon. It’s a bump of four spots after Indiana defeated North Carolina on Wednesday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Hoosiers won all four games they played in a recent eight-day stretch, including victories over Mississippi Valley State, SIU-Edwardsville and Southeast Missouri State.

The Big Ten has only three teams ranked this week, including No. 17 Wisconsin and No. 18 Purdue. Butler, IU’s opponent in the upcoming Crossroads Classic on Dec. 17, moved up two spots to No. 16.

After Kentucky lost last week to UCLA, Villanova is the new No. 1. The Bruins leapt from No. 11 to No. 2, Kansas is back to No. 3 and Baylor jumped from No. 9 to No. 4. Duke is No. 5, Kentucky is No. 6 and North Carolina is now No. 7 following its loss in Bloomington.

IU returns to action against Houston Baptist on Saturday at 4 p.m.

  1. Nothing like having two teams you’ve beat ahead of you in the polls. Ft Wayne has rattled off about 6 consecutive wins and play notre dame tonight. Butler and Louisville are climbing the ladder and will be extremely important games.
