League coaches picked Indiana’s baseball team to finish fourth in the Big Ten this spring, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Hoosiers are moving forward with a revamped pitching staff after losing all three weekend starters — and closer Jake Kelzer, a Bloomington South product — to graduation and the MLB First-Year Player Draft.
IU finished tied for third in the conference, while amassing a 32-24 record overall. The Hoosiers return nearly their entire lineup and placed three position players, outfielders Craig Dedelow and Logan Sowers and third baseman Luke Miller, on the Big Ten’s preseason honor roll.
Maryland was voted the preseason favorite to win the league, followed by Michigan in second place, Nebraska in third, Michigan State in fifth and Iowa and Minnesota, last year’s defending conference champs, tied in sixth.
Coaches voted on the top six teams and also selected three students from their own squads to fill the preseason honor list.
