Indiana junior Tyra Buss was named to the Wade Trophy watch list on Monday.
Buss was one of 10 players added to the list, which currently includes 35 players. Four finalists will be selected from that group in March.
The last time a Hoosier made the watch list for the Wade Trophy — a national player of the year award — was Denise Jackson in 1983 and ’84. A few of the finalists for this year’s award are: Monique Billings (UCLA), Lexie Brown (Duke), Napheesa Collier (UConn), Asia Durr (Louisville), Tori Jankoska (Michigan State), Chantel Osahor (Washington), Brittney Sykes (Syracuse), Katie Lou Samuelson (UConn) and Gabby Williams (UConn).
Buss, who was also named to the Naismith Award’s preseason top 50, is currently eighth in the Big Ten in scoring at 18.5 points per game. She is also dishing out 4.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game. She reached 1,000 career points this season, in her 66th career game, becoming the fastest player to reach that mark in school history.
Just yesterday against Maryland, Buss had her school-record double-digit scoring streak snapped at 59 games. She scored seven points against the Terrapins.
