IU will play Seton Hall in Gavitt Games

After a year off, Indiana will participate in the 2017 Gavitt Tipoff Games.

IU will be on the road, traveling for a game at Seton Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 15, a source confirmed to The Herald-Times on Saturday. It will be the second time in the three-year history of the Big Ten-Big East cross-conference event that the Hoosiers have participated.

IU is scheduled to participate in five of the seven years of the original Gavitt Games agreement. Indiana beat Creighton, 86-65, in the Hoosiers’ first Gavitt matchup on Nov. 19, 2015.

IU is 2-1 all-time against Seton Hall, winning the latest meeting, 83-69, on Nov. 7, 1998 in Indianapolis. The Pirates participated in last year’s Gavitt Games, winning at Iowa, 91-83.

Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports was first to report the Gavitt matchups on Saturday.

Other reported matchups include Minnesota at Providence on Nov. 13. Purdue is scheduled to travel to Marquette on Nov. 14.

Also on Nov. 15, Butler is scheduled to play at Maryland and Creighton is scheduled to play at Northwestern.

On Nov. 16, Xavier is scheduled to play at Wisconsin and Nebraska is scheduled to play at St. John’s. On Nov. 17, DePaul and Illinois close the event with a game in Champaign.
