Date set for 2018 Hoosier Hysteria

Hoosier Hysteria, the annual tipoff event for Indiana University men’s and women’s basketball, will take place on Sept. 29 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

The announcement of the first official event of the 2018-19 season came via university social media accounts on Tuesday.

An official starting time will be announced at a later date for the Saturday gathering, but it will be free of charge, as usual.

Men’s basketball coach Archie Miller will begin his second season at the helm of the Hoosiers with the nation’s No. 7 recruiting class in tow, a group that includes Indiana Mr. Basketball Romeo Langford.

Women’s basketball coach Teri Moren will begin her fifth season in Bloomington fresh off a WNIT championship.

  1. Admission is free of charge. Never knew that. And while I think that’s very nice, what if IU charged $5 per person and gave all the money to charity? How about accumulating that money and creating additional academic scholarships for academically qualified but underprivileged kids from within the state? Would an admission fee of $5, which could be made tax deductible, prohibit people from attending? I don’t think so. And just think what good could be done with an additional $87,000 a year going to charity! That could change a few lives!

There’s nothing wrong with making it free, but it seems to me like IU is wasting an opportunity, especially as our basketball teams are creating more interest and excitement from the Hoosier Nation.

  2. They have done things for charity in the past. I believe one year the price of admission was a canned good and was donated to local food banks. I think your idea is a good one though.
