WNIT banner to be unveiled at Hoosier Hysteria

Indiana’s women’s basketball team talked all postseason about a desire to “hang a banner.”

Winning a WNIT title, the Hoosiers assured that will happen. And now we know exactly when that banner will be hung.

IU announced Monday that the long-awaited banner will be unveiled during Hoosier Hysteria on Sept. 29 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The banner ceremony will celebrate the program’s first WNIT title, but it should also be a last goodbye to Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill.

Buss, the program’s all-time leading scorer, will attend Hoosier Hysteria before departing for her season overseas in Greece with Sporting Athens. Cahill is currently student teaching in Bloomington.

Buss and Cahill helped the Hoosiers win 15 out of their last 17 games in 2017-18, including a 65-57 win over Virginia Tech in the title game. That contest was played before 13,007 fans, the most in program history. Buss was named the tournament MVP, while Cahill also made the all-tournament team.

  1. Thanks Jon– Im sure we all were wondering just when that would take place. The fact Tyra and Amanda will be there for the banner raising will make the hoosier hysteria event even more special if that were possible. So what is that 31 yrs since a banner has been raised , about time even though its a first for the women, what a great run this team had , so special to end with a banner.

  2. So now we have the Post Buss & Cahill era and the bar has been set. Lets not forget though how highly Ali Patberg was ranked by ESPN hoopgurls in her 2015 class. #1 at her guard position and #13 overall. Hopefully she is well healed from her ACL and sickness she had at ND and is now ready to lead this new crew to greater heights, Go IU.

    1. Sometimes you have to find the right fit. Add in injuries and illness and it just wasn’t meant to be in South Bend.

Let’s hope this is a perfect fit for both Ali and the Hoosiers.
