Dorsey, Rennicks to U-20 national team

A pair of Indiana University soccer standouts were named to the 20-man roster for the United States U-20 national team in November’s CONCACAF Championship.

Sophomores Griffin Dorsey and Justin Rennicks were named by U-20 coach Tab Ramos to the team which will compete in the event at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., from Nov. 1-21. The top four teams will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will take place from May 23-June 15 in Poland.

Indiana was the only school in the country to have two players selected, as only four collegiate players were named to the squad.

“We are excited to have Justin and Griffin selected to represent our U-20 National Team,” IU coach Todd Yeagley said. “They join a distinguished list of IU players who have represented the USA. They have both worked hard to earn this call up and we look forward to seeing the USA qualify for (next) summer’s U-20 World Cup.”

The United States is the defending champion and top seed in the tournament. In Group A, the Americans will face Puerto Rico on Nov. 1, the U.S. Virgin Islands Nov. 3, Trinidad and Tobago Nov. 5, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Nov. 7 and Suriname Nov. 9 before knockout play begins.

The start of the tournament coincides with the start of the Big Ten Tournament, and the Indiana duo could also miss the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament as well.

  1. That team is amazing. 8 National Championships and the quality of soccer they play is the best. They back down from no one and they expect to be contenders every year. The Yeagley family is 2 to no one. Just a great program.
