Langford named Big Ten Freshman of the Week — again

For the fourth time this season — and second in as many weeks — Romeo Langford is the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week.

Langford earned the award by matching his career high with 28 points in Friday’s loss at Maryland, where the Indiana guard heated up with a strong second half. Langford scored 20 of his points during the final period, finishing with three assists and two rebounds, while shooting 8-for-14 from the field, 3-for-6 from 3-point range and 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

The New Albany native leads all conference freshmen with 18.8 points per game and is second in league games with 22.0 points per contest.

Langford is the third Hoosier to earn at least four Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Cody Zeller won the award seven times during the 2011-12 season and Noah Vonleh won it seven times during the 2013-14 season.

Maryland’s Bruno Fernando picked up Big Ten Player of the Week honors after posting a pair of double-doubles in two Maryland victories last week. Fernando scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against IU on Friday night.
