Morgan expected to play vs. Hawkeyes

Indiana’s most important player is expected to be available on Thursday against No. 20 Iowa.

Juwan Morgan is on track to play vs. the Hawkeyes, IU coach Archie Miller said on Wednesday afternoon, giving the Hoosiers an added boost entering their second ranked matchup in as many games.

Morgan left Saturday’s game at Michigan State with a left shoulder injury sustained in a loose-ball scrum, exiting with six minutes remaining in the first half. Although he didn’t return to the court for the second half, Morgan rejoined his teammates on the bench and has seen his medical outlook gradually improve as the week has unfolded.

“As it got calmed down and he got home and got some therapy and some treatment, he’s feeling good and he hasn’t missed a practice,” Miller said.

Initially, there was concern that Morgan may have aggravated a previous injury. Morgan had his left shoulder surgically repaired following his freshman season in 2016, a campaign that forced him to play with a shoulder brace during the back portion of the schedule.

“I think we avoided maybe a bigger problem, again, being in that shoulder,” Miller said. “I think he was really, really scared at the time. He’s had some instances there.”

Prior to leaving the Michigan State contest, Morgan averaged 16.3 points and 10.0 rebounds in his three previous games. The senior forward is averaging 15.9 points and 8.0 boards for the season.
