Langford won’t play in IU’s NIT opener

Romeo Langford will not play in Indiana’s NIT opener against St. Francis on Tuesday night.

The Hoosier freshman suffered a back injury during Thursday’s loss to Ohio State at the Big Ten Tournament, at one point leaving the floor with IU’s doctors. Indiana coach Archie Miller said prior to Tuesday’s game that Langford has been in treatment since the team returned from Chicago, but has not been able to practice.

“He got hurt in the first eight minutes of the Ohio State game with his back spasming up and locking out,” Miller said. “He’s had four or five days of treatment, but he’s just not able to practice or play right now. He’ll sit tonight and see where he goes day after day. As he feels better, he’ll get back and play, which I know he’s eager to do.”

Langford leads all Big Ten freshman — and IU’s team, overall — with 16.5 points per game. He’s second on the team with 75 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Redshirt freshman Race Thompson will also miss Tuesday’s game with a fever.

  1. I was going to go to the game but I had a bone in my leg. Whoever is stupid enough to draft this guy is in for a rude awakening unless they want depth on their G league roster.
