Philyor added to Biletnikoff Award Watch List

Junior Whop Philyor’s breakout campaign is starting to get some national recognition.

The 5-foot-11 slot receiver was added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, which honors the nation’s top receivers.

After a sophomore campaign limited by injury, Philyor has  57 receptions (tied for sixth nationally) and 737 yards (14th) to go along with three touchdowns. That’s more receptions (56) and yards (570) than his freshman and sophomore seasons combined.

Philyor also has three games this season with double-digit catch totals, adding to his IU career record of five. According to Pro Football Focus’s college branch, the Florida native’s 384 yards after contact top the Big Ten conference.

The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation will announce its 10 semifinalists for the award on Nov. 18 following a vote by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee. A week later, the field will be narrowed to three finalists.

The winner of the Biletnikoff Award will be announced Dec. 12 at the College Football Hall of Fame on The Home Depot College Football Awards.

  1. Good for Whop and IU. Just think Whop wasn’t one of the higher recruits in his class at IU but has shown himself to be a diamond in the rough. These are the players IU needs to strike on when others overlook their ability. Ellis looks like the next Whop and the other slots that came before him. IU has had a string of very good slot receivers that were low rated when they came to IU and developed into dangerous receivers.

    1. V13,
Knowing where to look to find kids like this is as important as what you can do with them. The next step is convincing them to come to IU. TA has done a great job the last two years in doing just that. TA’s connections to the southern football hotbeds are invaluable in fueling an IUFB turnaround.
