Hoosiers add 2020 DT Lewis

Indiana received a commitment from 2020 defensive tackle prospect Damarjhe Lewis on Thursday.

Lewis, a three-star from Griffin, Ga., was previously a verbal commit for Auburn but de-committed in May. His long list of Power 5 offers included Tennessee, West Virginia, Florida State, Miami, Penn State, and Florida, among others.

According to 247Sports, Lewis is the No. 58 prospect in the state of Georgia, as well as the No. 56 defensive tackle prospect in the class. Lewis, a 300-pounder who plays with great pad level and quickness off the snap, recorded 13 tackles for loss and four sacks in seven games as a senior for Griffin High School.

Lewis is aiming to be on campus for the spring, according to TheHoosier.com. He is the 14th commitment for the 2020 class, as previous defensive tackle commit JeJuan Sparks has de-committed.

Here is a link to his highlight on Hudl.

  1. This kid’s highlights are pretty impressive! Anytime you can get a 300 pounder to shore up the middle, it’s a good thing. He seems to be pretty quick for a kid his size. TA keeps getting solid recruits, keep up the good work! Go Hoosiers!!

  2. He looks like a very good pick up for IU to make their DL better. With this year’s first year players and the recruits coming in IU should have a DL in the near future that can create problems for OL in the B1G.

  3. Nice recruit….hopefully more to come….but I am worried somewhat, at the present time we do not see the talent pool of recruits coming in from Florida. For the pasted two years Florida has been the hotbed of Indiana recruits (the pipeline), this year Indiana has only one recruit from the talent rich state of Florida. Are the talented kids in Florida waiting to see who the FSU coach will be?? Hopefully this pipeline can continue…IMO, i was really hoping (still early) that this recruiting class would be really good (great) considering Indiana W-L record and the program seemingly moving in the right direction. Maybe it still will be Great recruiting class.

    1. I agree 79,
Not sure why the lack of commitment by the Florida pipeline. It may be the FSU vacancy. Bigger concern is the kids holding back to see if they want to play for TA at IU or FSU. As long as TA continues to get improved results in the W/L ledger, everyone better take seriously any opening at a traditional FB blue-blood school.

  4. And South Florida just fired their head coach, so there is more opportunity for IU to exploit coaching changes in southern Florida.

This is a good get, and we need help on the defensive line.

  5. Very apt post Po. Anytime there is recruiting vulnerability or weakness IU needs to powerfully exploit the opportunities. To the point Allen with Wommack, Hagen, DeBoer and Hiller towed in mass to market IUFB aggressively focused on ’20-21′ and ’22’ in Florida. Start to iberally invest $ now with the positive 8-4 W/L breakthrough.
