Browne reclassifies to 2020, commits to IU

Indiana women’s basketball is getting a late add to its 2020 class in forward Kiandra Browne.

Browne, listed as a 6-foot-1, four-star prospect by ESPN, was originally scheduled to be a part of the 2021 class but has decided to reclassify to attend IU this coming year. She has most recently played for Winston-Salem Christian in North Carolina, but she hails from Canada and has played with the country’s U-18 squad.

Projecting as a true four, ESPN’s most recent evaluation of Browne, the site’s No. 75 prospect for 2021, reads:

“Physical, efficient interior prospect with high motor effort; soft touch, footwork yields results in the paint, visits to the charity stripe; work horse on the glass, mobile in transition game.”

Hailing from Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Browne has also played center for St-Laurent Express Basketball. In January, she was one of three Winston-Salem Christian athletes nominated for a McDonald’s All-American Games showcase event in Houston.

Browne will be the third addition to IU’s roster this offseason, joining 6-foot guard Chloe Moore-McNeil as part of the 2020 class. IU only graduated Brenna Wise from last year’s roster, but the departures of Jorie Allen, Shaila Beeler, and Bendu Yeaney to transfer did leave Teri Moren with open spots to fill.

Along with Moore-McNeil and Browne, the Hoosiers have added George Mason transfer guard Nicole Cardano-Hillary.

  1. Looks like a good get. Gulbe (is she back to IU yet?), Holmes, Noveroske, Wisne and now Brown, talking some good coverage at center. Hope they can get the season in. Maybe 50 / 50 ? Could be a challenge for the Coach, allocating game time.

  2. Excellent T.Moren kind of player. 4 star @ 94. Soft touch and physical. I don’t expect a big impact nor should playing time be a problem. It will take a year or two for the freshman to get a lot of playing time. That includes this recruit. IU Ladies will have to replace graduating players over the next couple years. Unless there is a log jam because of cancellation of seasons thus possibly extending a year of playing. So, if the best players stay committed as IU team players it will continue to equal IU Ladies basketball growth and success.

  3. Browne sounds like a good get according to espn. I wonder if she made the right choice to reclassify for this year which is in doubt. The article lists Hillary as a player for this season, but it is my understanding that even with the waiver rule change wont take effect untill next season or did I miss something.

  4. In checking around on different sites I see Browne’s height varying anywhere from 6.0′ to 6. 3″. Both the daily hoosier and maxpreps has her at 6′ 3″ I wonder which is correct.

    1. Steve,
I’ll have a full story tomorrow, but I spoke with Kiandra today and she said she’s 6-1, maybe 6-2 on a good day. She also plans to redshirt this year.

Also, keep in mind Hillary will be on the roster and practicing this year, just not eligible to play.

  5. Jeremy- Thanks smart move for Browne and that was what I thought on Hillary. Looks like Browne is a really good get.
