B1G confirms IU for a 3:30 kick on Oct. 24

Indiana will indeed kick off its season on a Saturday, the conference announced this morning.

It will be a 3:30 p.m. kick for IU and Penn State at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 24, airing on FS1.

Wisconsin-Illinois was pegged by the Big Ten to be the lone matchup on Friday, Oct. 23, kicking off conference play with an 8 p.m. contest on Big Ten Network. When the Big Ten announced its nine-game, nine-week slate in September, it was mentioned that select matchups would be moved to Fridays.

The Hoosiers’ original slate called for a Friday, Sept. 4, opener at Wisconsin. That remained the case in the first edition of the Big Ten’s conference-only slate. But in the second and final version, IU does not travel to Madison until the seventh week of the season.

Now the opener with Penn State will be a traditional Saturday kickoff, though the atmosphere will certainly be different. No fans will be in attendance, per the conference’s restrictions, other than family members of the players and coaches involved.
