IU’s Jackson-Davis on Malone Award watch list

Indiana sophomore Trayce Jackson-Davis continues to earn preseason recognition, as he was named to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award’s preseason watch list.

The 6-foot-9 forward from Greenwood is one of 20 candidates for the honor, along with Wisconsin’s Nate Reuvers and Ohio State’s Seth Towns in the Big Ten.

Previous winners of the award include top NBA draft picks like Duke’s Zion Williamson (2019) and Arizona’s Deandre Ayton (’18). Dayton’s Obi Toppin won the award last year.

Jackson-Davis looks to make another leap this season after leading the Hoosiers in points (13.5 per game), rebounding (8.4), field goal percentage (56.6), and blocks (1.9) as a freshman. He also led the Hoosiers with 115 free throws on 168 attempts. His 270 rebounds in 2019-20 were an IU freshman record.

Along with the Malone watch list, Jackson-Davis has been named a second-team preseason All-American by CBS Sports. He was placed on Blue Ribbon’s preseason third-team, as well.

The winner of the 2021 Karl Malone Award is scheduled to be presented on Friday, April 9.
