Hoosiers move up in polls, without playing a game

Indiana football has moved up to No. 7 in the Amway Coaches poll.

A two-spot improvement came during a week where the Hoosiers (6-1) didn’t play a game. IU and Purdue canceled their Week 8 matchup because of increased COVID-19 cases in both programs.

Losses by other programs put the Hoosiers in position to make a jump. Florida (8-2) fell five places, to No. 11, in the poll because of a loss to unranked LSU. Miami (8-2) fell 11 spots, down to No. 19, because of a 62-26 pounding to No. 15 North Carolina (8-3).

IU was No. 9 in the coaches poll last week, as well as No. 8 in the Associated Press rankings. The AP rankings will be released later today.

The real question is what comes Tuesday, when the College Football Playoff selection committee releases its updated rankings. IU has remained at No. 12 every week, even last week following a win over then-No. 16 Wisconsin in Madison. That rankled some within the Hoosier program.

Will the Hoosiers’ standing in the CFP improve? Stay tuned.

  1. How does a top 10 team get blown out by a score of 62 – 26? I reviewed those scores yesterday and yelled YES, knowing that IU would move up and increase the likelihood of moving up in the CFP rankings. It’s almost impossible for them not to move IU up.

    Go Hoosiers!

    1. PO, it is good to see the polls moving IU up like the CFP committee can’t seem to see. With the season IU has had they deserve to move up and I hope they get to play PU but it is iffy.

  2. Don’t play has always been successful for IU. IU matches up well with several teams between 5 thru 15. Does K.W. coach in bowl game? If played.

    1. I read today that Kane Womak will Coach the IU Defense for the rest of this season: against Purdue (?) and in whatever Bowl Game IU qualifies for (New Years Day ?). Thank you Coach Allen for hiring such great assistants and such high character humans!

  3. Money? T.A. has love affair with IU. After short honey moon no love affair at Auburn unless you overtake Georgia and match or overtake Bama. If not it’s money and out.

    1. 8 years is not a “short honeymoon”! It is a long relationship, with a national Title! But he could not overcome Nick. No one else has either!

  4. 1992, where’d you see that rumor published? Based on everything I’ve read today, TA is not among Auburn’s top seven candidates. But IU is trying to sign a few of Auburn’s recruiting targets.
