Bloomington townspeople and Indiana University students will welcome the Indiana University Hurryin’ Hoosiers back to the City tomorrow afternoon, “win, lose or draw,” with a gigantic parade, starting at 10th and Walnut Streets and moving to the Square and on to the Fieldhouse.

Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Union Student Spirit committee, the parade units will meet the team at Cascades Park and New Highway 37 at approximately 3 p.m., when it arrives by chartered bus from Indianapolis.

The team members, Coach Branch McCracken and his assistants will be transferred to convertibles, and will join the rest of the paraders at Tenth Street.

Escorted by police, and including a fire truck, the I.U. band, city officials, and all the townspeople and students who care to join the parade will move along College Avenue to Kirkwood, along Kirkwood to Indiana Avenue, along Indiana to Third Street, along Third to Jordan Avenue, along Jordan to Seventh, and along Seventh to the Fieldhouse.

Johnson said the University High School band would march in the parade.

The team is scheduled to arrive in Indianapolis by airplane from the “NCAA basketball wars” in Kansas City at 1:30.

Neither the team nor Coach McCracken has been informed of the parade, which will take place whether the team wins the NCAA crown or not. I.U. fraternities and sororities have been urged to put up banners and signs, welcoming the team back home.

Banquet Tomorrow

After that whirlwind welcome, the team will be feted at 6:30 at a banquet in Alumni Hall. Co-sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Union Board, the banquet will be attended by I.U.’s NCAA champions of 1940 as well as other basketball greats. Jack Brickhouse, nationally-known radio and television announcer, will be the main speaker.

The Jaycees announced today that the 600 tickets for the event are dwindling rapidly and that the deadline for sales was to have been at 5 p.m. today. However, they said, last-minute purchasers may get a ticket from Richard Hickam, phone 7614.
