Sunday soccer, and a few hoops thoughts…

I’m covering the Indiana vs. Notre Dame soccer match now on a radiant Sunday afternoon. Couldn’t ask for much nicer soccer weather. I’ll try to post some updates as the game moves along.

There’s some chatter on this blog and in other places about whether or not the pick up game fiasco – in which fans thought they’d be allowed to watch Eric Gordon and Derrick Rose play with current Indiana players but then were denied entry – constitutes an NCAA violation.

It does appear that Indiana decided to close the practice in fear of the mighty NCAA, a bureaucratic organization rivaled only by the folks in Washington. Indiana’s fear was that opening the practice would be seen as publicizing a recruit’s visit, which is not allowed. Given the touchiness of the NCAA, it was probably the right decision.
