IU hires Edgewood grad as volleyball coach

Edgewood graduate Sherry Dunbar has been hired as Indiana’s new volleyball coach.

The Indiana athletic department announced the hiring in a news release Sunday afternoon. Dunbar replaces Katie Weismiller who recently resigned.

Dunbar, a former standout player at Edgewood and Ball State, has been head coach at the College of Charleston for the past four seasons, compiling a 113-22 record (.837) with three conference titles and trips to the NCAA tournament the past three seasons.

She was Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005. Her teams went 32-2 in 2005 and 27-8 in 2006.

She previously spent six years as an assistant coach at Tennessee and four years as an assistant at the University of San Francisco.

Dunbar got her start in coaching as an assistant coach at Edgewood. She was born in Fontana, Calif., but grew up in Ellettsville.
