This could get interesting…

Billy Donovan has turned down Kentucky. He’ll stay at Florida, where all he’s done is win two national titles and is about to have three guys picked in the top 15 of the NBA Draft.

So now Kentucky is looking to hire Rick Barnes of Texas.

Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson and Barnes played against each other in college. Well, they played in a scrimmage. Sampson says Barnes was the better player.

They were part of the same NAIA league in North Carolina, Sampson playing for Pembroke State and Barnes for Lenoir-Rhyne College. A few years earlier, Tubby Smith, who left Kentucky for Minnesota, had played at nearby High Point.

That’s quite fertile ground for coaches there in the Carolinas. But having Dean Smith in the area is pretty good fertilizer, when you think about it.
