Roberts transferring

Word that Indiana linebacker Mandela Roberts is transferring to Stephen F. Austin University came today from a television station near Roberts’ hometown of Lufkin, Texas.

“I wanted to be closer to home and help my family,” Roberts told KTRE 9 reporter Ryan Peterson, according to a report on KTRE.com.

As a reserve for Indiana last season, Roberts played in 11 games, making 12 tackles. His high came with five tackles against Ohio State. Having played on IU’s second-string defense during this year’s spring practice, his absence could hurt the Hoosiers’ depth at linebacker.

  1. Hi Jim,

That story has had us all talking about it in the H-T newsroom and sports department this week. It probably doesn’t surprise you to hear that we disagree with the NCAA’s take on blogging. Chris Korman will have a column in our paper tomorrow about this situation.

I don’t know what impact this ultimately will have on our blogging that we do at games, but I do expect for the NCAA to continue to push this issue and for schools like IU to follow suit, with the whole thing winding up in court at some point.
