Sunday morning update

Indiana’s players huddle prior to the Saturday game against Guatemala.

Indiana plays its final game here in the Bahamas at noon today. After that the team will head back to Bloomington. Indiana has classes tomorrow and the players are not allowed to miss them.

The Hoosiers face a club team today that is sponsored by Commonwealth Bank. Interestingly, the banks drive a lot of the sports culture here. For instance, the track and field venue near Kendal Isaacs gym was packed on Friday night at about 11 p.m. There was a track meet going on the pitted teams representing all the major banks on the island — Commonwealth, Scotia, Royal Bank of Canada and more — and most of the employees were there rooting for their teams.

Yesterday Kelvin Sampson discussed the Eli Holman situation and said that he was not worried that Holman has not passed through the NCAA Clearinghouse. “I’ve been through this before,” he said. It’s still unclear why Holman thought in August that he had cleared, telling reporters that it was a relief to know he was eligible.

Holman did practice with the team during the week, but Sampson said his compliance director told him not to take Holman on the trip. So he didn’t.
