Camp Randall is quiet

Camp Randall boardThe scene at Camp Randall, two hours before kickoff.

For now.

We’ve made our way to the stadium, cutting through Madison and it’s sprawling, bustling pre-game party scene. As you’ve probably become accustomed to, Indiana’s visit struck Wisconsin officials as the perfect time to host homecoming. So the streets are full.

They were last night, too. Much of downtown was shut down for a parade and fireworks. Then, after a two-hour lull — for dinner or drinks, or for sleeping off previous drinks — Halloween happened, as State Street filled with men dressed in drag or as beer bottles and women in very little. Police were everywhere. Alas, I can only imagine the scene as the night wore on. We headed back to get a good night sleep.

I’ll be back in a few with football talk.
