Players and coaches react to the loss

I’ve posted the audio of Bill Lynch’s press conference. It can be found here, and is free to listen to even if you aren’t a subscriber.

Typical message from Indiana’s coach following the loss.

“Well, we played a good football team in Wisconsin today and coming up here we knew it was going to be a game where we needed to get off to a decent start,” Lynch said. “We didn’t take control of the first quarter and we got behind and then it was tough to get back.”

James Hardy said he thought the holding call that took away Marcus Thigpen’s long touchdown run was bogus.

“I thought personally it wasn’t a hold,” he said.

Hardy, when informed that his team could (and probably will) need two more wins to ensure a bowl, said he thought his team would still accomplish Terry Hoeppner’s goal.

But that will at least in part be determined by whether the team can get healthy. There are at least 10 injures that seem to be limiting the Hoosiers:

  • RB Josiah Sears, who fumbled in the first half, has a broken hand.
  • RB Bryan Payton had only one carry on Saturday and was unable to play due to lingering pain, presumably in his ribs.
  • RB Demetrius McCray has played only three games this year, and not since the Illinois game.
  • WR Ray Fisher didn’t make the trip. He’s got an injured foot.
  • TE Nick Sexton didn’t play. He’s got a head injury.
  • Starting T Charlie Emerson didn’t play Saturday due to a foot injury.
  • Starting C Ben Wyss left the game with a foot injury.
  • Starting G Pete Saxon left with a shoulder injury.
  • Backup C Matt Moses hurt his knee and was unable to continue.
  • On the defensive side, DT Joe Kremer hurt his knee early in the game and sat the rest of the afternoon.

  1. A good team in Wisconsin??? What a load of crap! I have personally watched the badgers play and they aren’t half as good as PSU.. How about taking some responsibility for bringing a Junior High gameplan… Give me a break!! This guy stinks!!! Go back to a MAC school Bill… I’m sure you will defend him Mike but I just can’t trust him to have our team ready… 33-3…. Joke!!!
