Indiana on other end of “decommit”

After being stung last year by a couple of the top recruits who committed to IU but later changed their minds when bigger-name programs came calling, Indiana football today is on the other end of that scenario.

Tyler Adetona, a fast 6-foot-1 receiver from Gainesville, Ga., told Inside Indiana late Monday night that he decommitted from Troy and gave Indiana a verbal commitment.

Terry Hoeppner disliked it when someone “decommitted” from IU so much that he insisted it wasn’t a word, but, like it or not, it is a common practice for recruits to change their minds about their college decisions as better offers arrive, a practice that seems to be growing in frequency every year. So it’s a positive sign for IU’s recruiting class that this decommit who is heading the Hoosiers way rather than departing for a Florida or West Virginia.

Check back with us today and we’ll have updates on the Darius Willis decision. This is feeling like it could be an awfully big couple of days for IU football recruiting now that the staff has some job security and had an important group of prospects in for visits over the weekend.
