Bassett will probably miss Michigan game

Kelvin Sampson just finished his turn on the weekly Big Ten conference call.

Here was his assessment of where his team stands heading into tomorrow night’s game in Ann Arbor.

“We have to get Armon Bassett back,” he said. “For us to be as good as we can be, we need him to be playing. Not having him is a blow for us. I don’t think we’ll have him for the Michigan game, either.”

Bassett, a sophomore point guard, suffered a bone chip in his left ankle late in the Chicago State game. He hasn’t practiced since then, but did try to play against Iowa last week. He lasted three minutes.

“He’s just getting a lot of treatment,” Sampson said. “A lot of rehab. It’s something that’s going to bother him the rest of the year. It may be a thing where he needs to have surgery and be out or we may be able to get him through the year with it.”
