Despite cold, Hoosiers try to turn Boiler Down

INDIANA (8-5, 1-0) vs. PURDUE (5-7, 1-1), 8 p.m. tonight, Assembly Hall

“Come in Crimson” is the call on the IU athletics website, rather than the infamous White Out, so wear red if you’re coming out in the chill to watch the game. Or Black and Gold if you roll that way.

The Lady Hoosiers have only beat the Boilermakers twice in the last 20 meetings, including two seasons ago in West Lafayette with current Purdue coach Sharon Versyp leading the charge from the Indiana bench and the heroics of Cyndi Valentin on the floor.

Lakisha Freeman leads Purdue in scoring this season at 13.4 ppg and center Danielle Campbell is second in the Big Ten in blocked shots per outing and has 34 on the year. Jamie Braun paces the Hoosiers at 14.2 ppg and leads the team with 45 assists.

Tonight’s game is part of the Barn Burner series that began in the 1993-94 season and now alternates venues between Mackey Arena and Assembly Hall. The last Hoosier win in this series that garners the Barn Burner Trophy for the winner was in January of 1998, which is also the last time IU won a home game against the in-state rival.
