IU “playing it by ear” with Ratliff

No word from Kelvin Sampson, who met with the beat writers today, on when A.J. Ratliff might return. The senior guard out of Indianapolis is dealing with family issues right now.

“He’s just dealing with some stuff,” Sampson said. “It’s unfortunate. A kid gets to his senior year and if the kid didn’t have bad luck he wouldn’t have any luck. We’re just playing it by ear. It’s totally up to him.”

Ratliff’s uncle and legal guardian, Josh Gilbert, told the H-T yesterday that he expected Ratliff to be back in time for Sunday’s 1 p.m. game at Ohio State.

  1. I’m not trying to be nosy… but any idea what exactly “family issues” entail? I hope everything’s alright for him and his loved ones.

  2. Cate,

Sorry I didn’t respond to you last night. It slipped my mind during the frenzy. I meant to.

I don’t know anything more about what’s going on with A.J. Ratliff but if I do hear anything I will let you know.

  3. If AJ is dealing with so much “stuff” maybe he shouldn’t have been at Sports tonight. It also happens to be the same place I’ve seen him all year. I’m sorry but AJ has completely wasted his senior year.

  4. Are you saying you are a regular at Sports? LOL
Maybe it is his sanctuary to ponder things…
Seriously, it is a shame he lost focus academically last year and now faces the reality of the situation… one which does not bode well for a happy ending… Maybe he could just gather himself and give it one more college try…
