Predictions? Thoughts?

Sunday may very well be the most important game of Indiana’s season. A win, and Indiana has a great chance to at least tie for the Big Ten Championship. They host Minnesota on Wednesday for Senior Night, and visit Penn State that weekend to close out the regular season. It’s not likely that Wisconsin or Purdue will lose one of their remaining games.

A win against the Spartans in the Breslin Center won’t be easy though. The Hoosiers blasted Michigan State, 80-61, two weeks ago at Assembly Hall but haven’t won there since 1991. That’s 11 straight losses. A huge credit to the program Tom Izzo has built and how difficult it is to win there.

So what happens Sunday afternoon? With so much on the line, how will the Hoosiers respond? It seems that, after a whirlwind of a week, things have settled down and the players have accepted the fact that Dan Dakich is the head coach. This is, without question, the toughest test of his brief tenure as interim head coach.

  1. just needing a clarification from someone – a 3 way tie has Purdue #1 seed, Wisc #2, and IU #3 seed for the Big 10 tournament based on record against the other 2 teams, correct? it also means co-champions for regular season?

and in case anyone else is wondering, here is how the 2 team tiebreakers for seeding shake out, at least by what i can tell: IU & Wisc – #1 goes to Wisconsin by virtue of their 2 wins over IU. IU & Purdue – #1 goes to IU by virtue of their win over PU. Purdue & Wisconsin – goes to PU based on their 2 wins over Wisc.

Interesting how none of the match ups between the teams were split this season.

  2. also – the #1 & #4 seeds openings games are on ESPN while the #2 & #3 are on BTN. so it is of even more importance for some of us that IU pulls out that #1 seed.

  3. The lack of effort by the team the past 2 games makes it very easy to pick Michigan St.

It took a minor miracle to beat a 0-13 Northwestern team. Then the team gets a mediocre Ohio St team at home playing their worst game of the year and only wins by 3.

There’s no chance they go up to East Lansing and win. That’s something only a great team can do, and these guys have given up.

  4. I think DD oughta copy “hoosier”‘s? comments and post them in the locker room.

In a very tough year, the only thing this team hasn’t done is QUIT. Credit to DJ White.

I’ll predict somebody will win sunday, but the HOOSIERS won’t QUIT!!

  5. The Hoosiers didn’t shoot well against Ohio State. That’s different from not playing well. They shot poorly and won against a pretty good team. In the last 2 minutes OSU couldn’t miss a three and we still won.

  6. It’s not like Michigan State is playing sparkling basketball at the moment. Indiana has a great chance to win in East Lansing…something we haven’t done in who knows how long…

The Ohio State game was an improvement from the near debacle at NW. I think the team is putting the changes behind them and moving forward.

I’d give Michigan maybe a 55/45 edge in this game, but IU has a great shot to pull out the W. I think MSU probably wins, but Indiana has much more at steak than the Spartans…so don’t be surprised to IU playing with more enthusiasm and intensity, despite it being MSU’s senior night.

  7. We just aren’t playing that well right now. The game is more important to MSU on many levels and coming off a poor performance at Wisconsin, I expect they will come out and play hard against IU.

DJ is not healthy, and EJ has hit the freshman wall and his injury has impacted his game more as time has gone on. I expect us to lose by 10 plus.

  8. The story of the college basketball season will be the Indiana Hoosiers. Tomorrow starts an unbelievable winning streak on the way to the national title. The victory over Michigan State propels the Hoosiers forward.

IU ties with Wisconsin for the Big Ten title after Purdue falters against Ohio State. The Hoosiers rock and roll their way to the Big Ten Title and a solid #3 seed in the tourney.

The San Antonio River Walk becomes a sea of crimson as the Hoosiers ride the momentum of the Big Ten season to a national championship.

  9. The Breslin Center on Senior Day will be the toughest challenge of the season. Our D can’t give Neitzel open looks, and we’ll have to be smart with the ball if we want to stay in the hunt. I wouldn’t be surprised if the officiating becomes an issue and our stars are forced to sit awhile. How about the women’s team passing out their own fliers before the Ohio St. game Tuesday! They earned my respect and attendance tomorrow for their grassroots marketing.

  10. I say the Hoosiers surprise a few people and cruise in this one.

Forget the last 2 games, DJ White had the flu. You and I, not to mention Mike Davis, would have been flat on our collective backs, not fighting for rebounds. I assume he is better by now. And he clearly knows that his big shot at a legacy is to add “2008” to the Big Ten Championships banner.

The Breslin Center will be less of a bonus for Sparty since the students are on spring break this week and the alums won’t be as likely to make the drive now that they are out of the race. I expect a lot of red sprinkled into this crowd.

Oh, and let’s not forget that Sparty is really quite bad this year. The only good win they have is over Texas at home and the Horns are one of the most inconsistent teams in the nation.

These things spell IU victory to me. If Neitzel shoots well Sparty loses by 5-10. If not it could be a laugher.

  11. students on spring break eh? where do you get your information?

and the alums wont make the drive? nah, what do they care about senior day?

and finally, neitzel shoots well and they lose by 5-10? you really meant ‘win by 40’ right?

  12. Best prediction on this thread. Go ahead and print it out, put it in the locker room, or try and deny it.

This team has given up. There is no effort on the defensive end, the only reason the Ohio State game was under 80 was because they just couldn’t shoot.

They are trying to get by on their talent. Tons of bad shots, no plays being run, and guys who think that they can take any 3 pointer that they see.

They’ll beat the 6 seed they play in the Big Ten tournament, and lose in the 2nd round in the NCAA tournament if they are lucky enough to make it there.

1-6 against RPI top 25 teams, the only win being against an MSU team at home that couldn’t beat Iowa or Penn State on the road.
