Second Half:

Indiana 48, Michigan 41: Timeout with 15:43 left in the game.

Indiana 51, Michigan 41: Whitney Thomas, with 17 points today, is swarmed underneath the basket by three Wolverines and the ball is deflected out of bounds as she tries to get a shot up. There’s no call, but IU retains possession and Jamie Braun hits a 3.

Indiana 55, Michigan 44: Timeout with 11:28 to play.

Indiana 59, Michigan 45: Jamie Braun goes Ringling Brothers with a circus shot that falls on a bank after she’s hacked in midair. She’ll shoot a free throw after a timeout with 7:52 to play.

Indiana 66, Michigan 56: Wolverine guard Janelle Cooper hits a 3 with 5:01 left in the game. A one-time 17 point Hoosier lead is back to ten.

Indiana 68, Michigan 58: A lengthy delay follows an official review of a Hoosier possession that the Wolverines believe should have resulted in a shot clock violation. Whitney Thomas launched a rough shot that didn’t seem to touch the rim, but the clock was reset and Indiana grabbed the rebound. 3:39 is left on the board and it will be Michigan ball.

Indiana 74, Michigan 63: It should be elementary from here on out with 1:17 left on the clock.

FINAL: Indiana 74, Michigan 65: A solid crowd of around 2,500 or so are rewarded with a victory in what could easily be called a must-win situation.

——————-

Coach Jack is throwing out all the stops, starting freshmen Whitney Lindsay and Georgia Follmer in today’s game in place of Amber Jackson and Nikki Smith/Haylie Linn. There is a higher turnout than usual at Assembly Hall, as IU participates in the nationwide phenomenon that is the “Think Pink” campaign. Both teams donned pink warmups for the pregame festivities, and the Hoosiers have pink headbands and socks. Michigan is wearing its normal maize and blue, but the officials have pink whistles.

First Quarter:

Indiana 4, Michigan 3: Both Whitneys, Thomas and Lindsay, have scored on layups as a result of some sharp passing inside, while senior guard Janelle Cooper drained a 3-ball for the Wolverines. 16:50 to play.

Indiana 7, Michigan 3: It’s Lindsay with a 3!!! from the right corner.

Indiana 11, Michigan 11: Michigan ties the game with a second straight 3. Krista Clement launched a DEEP 26-footer and Carly Benson nailed one from the top of the key. But the Hoosiers’ offense looks pretty sharp, as all five of the starters have scored. There’s 13:41 left in the half, and Amber Jackson is checking in for her first action of the day.

Indiana 16, Michigan 13: Jamie Braun gets a true shooter’s bounce as her 3 from up top hits the right back of the rim and somehow spins up and back through the net.

Indiana 20, Michigan 13: Braun has seven points so far as a timeout is called with 11:12 to play in the first.

Indiana 24, Michigan 17: Wolverine sub Stephany Skrba ends an 11-0 Hoosier run with two consecutive layups, one from each side of the hoop. Skrba has six points.

Indiana 31, Michigan 21: It’s a 3-for-1 in the Hoosiers’ favor. On the Michigan end, it’s Skrba again, who’s scoring at will. For IU, Nikki Smith fakes a jumper and instead dishes to Braun for an easy 12-footer. Then, Smith unleashes a 3!!! from the left corner. And finally, Whitney Thomas is fed underneath and delivers a layup. 6:30 or so left.

Indiana 33, Michigan 26: Thomas is up to 10 points for IU, but Carly Benson knocks down a 3 for the Wolverines. 4:33 to go.

Indiana 38, Michigan 30: After Braun picks off a Wolverine pass, she feeds Thomas in the lane, whose shot is blocked by Skrba. Braun then tries going to Thomas again, and Skrba fouls her. Thomas makes one of her two free throws and is 5-for-8 from the line.

HALFTIME: Indiana 40, Michigan 30: Thomas strikes again, electing to cut inside and hitting a running layup with about 17 seconds left instead of holding for the last shot of the half, and the Wolverines are unable to score. Thomas leads the florr with 15 points.
