Double-secret NBA deal involving D.J. White

D.J. White celebrates his 3-pointer.

[5:30 UPDATE]

According to the all-knowing ESPN college hoops guru Andy Katz (you have to be an Insider to read the article and if you aren’t, well, then you’re probably an unloved outcast), White will not, in fact, be in Orlando.

Also, Eric Gordon was voted by the NBA teams as one of the 15 players who will only go through skills, strength, agility and medical testing. This means — perhaps only to the shock of the IU fans who soured on his play last season — that Gordon is basically a lock to go in the first 15 picks.

According to, in an article entitled Word on the Street (fourth note), D.J. White may have received a promise from the Detroit Pistons that they will pick him with the 29th pick in the first round of the NBA draft.

The article also says that White may not participate in the Orlando pre-draft camp this weekend — something we’ve heard but have not been able to confirm. If White does in fact skip out on the workouts, it means he’s received some sort of information that leads him to believe his draft status is secure.

Whether or not that information was an assurance from a team currently playing for the Eastern Conference Finals or simply the advice of his agent is something we’re trying to find out.

  1. IU players are why the Pistons are my favorite team. Kent Benson and Isiah Thomas played for them when I was just a kid and I have been a fan ever since. That would be awesome if they pick DJ, one more reason to keep cheering for them.

    Go Hoosiers!!!!!!
    Go Pistons!!!!!!!
    Go DJ!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. As a Pistons and IU fan I have been saying for MONTHS that DJ would fit into their system perfectly, especially with the certain players getting old. I would LOVE to see this happen!!!!!!

  3. If DJ went to Detroit then maybe DJ could invite Ray Maccallum over for dinner or something.

  4. Not so fast Detroit…word on the street is that the Utah Jazz are also interested in DJ as a replacement for Carlos Boozer. Stay tuned!

  5. Dude he better not go to the pistons. I hate those fools ever since their drunk ass fans derailed our final push at a Championship. I love DJ more than I hate the Pistons, but man I hope the Pacers could trade up and get him in the first round. We will see.

  6. Just going to echo what TruHoosier said. Born and raised in metropolitan Detroit so I bleed Piston Blue. Sorry Caleb & Dynasty, maybe if the Pacers’ players hadn’t been knuckleheads and the team’s management had the vision to put the right pieces together they wouldn’t be a lottery team. The Pistons aren’t in their sixth straight ECF because of luck. Dynasty, I don’t know how you can support IU’s recent teams and then call the Pistons boring, that’s just silly. Anyway, I think DJ could flourish in the Pistons’ “no superstar” team game. Detroit is a no nonsense team who specializes in hard-nosed defense. I’m not sure what position DJ will play in the NBA or how he’d fit on the Pistons squad, but we all know he’s a workhorse without an ego but with loads of talent. If the Pistons wish to stay competitive they will need a solid player to take over when McDyess hangs it up. DJ White seems to fit that mold.

  7. About IU football. Any news on Kellen Lewis returning any time soon? Also, what is your opinion on how realistic it is to pick IU winning 7 games with Ben Chappell at QB? (everyone that know me know I LOVE IU basketball, but I love IU football more. I’m a glutton for punishment).

  8. The Pistons are gay.

And no way IU football wins 7 games. Maybe the first couple cause we always schedule the annual cupcake non conference games. But thats probably it.

  9. I’ll be happy for DJ even if he goes to Motown. I will probably get tickets to see him play the Pacers just to show my appreciation for the class and character he brought to an IU program that was lacking in class and character during his college career.

    Thanks DJ!!

  10. DJ, please say no to the pistons. Most of the fans there are on probation and can’t seem to resist throwing beer at opposing teams.

  11. I want DJ in Cleveland! With Z, Ben and Joe Smith (if they resign) all on the downside and Verajao being a 7th man, we need another good, young BIG.
