Making Memorial Stadium more purty

The Indiana athletics department is currently conducting a little bit of interior (and exterior) decorating at Memorial Stadium. They’ve begun hanging new posters and signs throughout the stadium.

Hanging on the high levels of the stadium and facing the parking lots are huge signs with depictions of the most legendary of Hoosiers such as Antwaan Randle El, Anthony Thompson and George Taliaferro. Inside, the concrete walls are being covered with signs that commemorate IU’s bowl appearances, honor Terry Hoeppner and tout the slogan “Defend The Rock.”

Here are a few pictures of the work that has been done so far.

  1. He donated to renovate the locker room. There is a plaque and a special locker in honor of him in there.

by the way, the stadium looks GREAT!

  2. Thank goodness, the concrete walls surrounding the playing field were looking a little aged last year.

  3. That looks great. It’s really funny to me because I was about to ask you guys about the hanging pics in Memorial Stadium. I passed by but didn’t notice what pics they put up. It looks really cool!

  4. I know I’m an old-timer, but it would be nice to honor Coach Pont in some way – either a patch on the uniforms this season or a “special” banner recognizing IU’s 1967 Rose Bowl season……the most magical year of IU football!

  5. The uniforms they wore during the Bucket game last year were throw backs to that era. The jersey’s had a 40th anniversary patch and the living members (I think all of them) of the 67 Rose Bowl team were at the game.

As for Coach Pont, I agree they should have a helmet sticker or a jersey patch to celebrate him this season.

  6. HAHA, that’s crazy, some kid in my sport management class was talking about how IU should be doing this (the banners and the stadium signs with the bowls) in a speech.

  7. They need to powerspray the entire exterior and interior of the stadium to clean of the limestone. It is looking pretty dirty, but I do love the upgrades and signs. Difinitely going to be more attractive.

  8. Greg,

At the scrimmage last weekend it was evident they were doing lots more work. The interior walls have been cleaned and even looked like they had been coated to make them look better. Take a trip out there for yourself, you might be surprised how nice it looks.

  9. Mike P,
