Soccer in the springtime

I’m at Bill Armstrong Stadium for some spring soccer this evening. We’ve got 30 minutes left to go between Indiana and IUPUI, but so far tonight, no goals in 150 minutes of soccer.

The Hoosiers are playing a 3-5-2 formation this spring after playing a 4-4-2 last fall. In the first game vs. Cincinnati, the IU lineup was: Will Bruin and Alex Purdie at forward; Darren Yeagle, Eric Alexander, Andy Adlard, Nick Blevins and Lee Hagedorn at midfield; Caleb Konstanski, Tommy Meyer and Cameron Jordan in back with goalkeeper Luis Soffner.

In the second game, IU started: forwards Neil Wilmarth and Tim Wylie; midfielders Tyler McCarroll, Joe Tolen, Alex Boler, Adlard and Max Weston; defenders Chris Haffner, Ofori Sarkodie and Daniel Kelly with goalkeeper Nate Mitchell.

I’ll have a story about the Hoosiers spring progress in a few days, but right now I’d just like to see somebody score a goal.

UPDATE: It was a perfect night – 180 minutes with no goals.

  1. Ouch.
This is not addressing what has been coach Frietag’s biggest problem: great defense- not enough goals scored.
