Indiana will face Ole Miss in Puerto Rico

When Indiana heads to San Juan in November for the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, a familiar face will be awaiting them.

The Hoosiers will play Ole Miss, with former guard Nick Williams on the bench, in the first round of the eight-team tournament at 5 p.m. on Nov. 19 (ESPN2).

Williams, who left Indiana after the 2008-09 season, will not be eligible to play in the game as he sits out the NCAA-mandated transfer season.

“I know our players, coaches and fans look forward to competing on a national stage and are excited to get the opportunity to appear on national television,” said Indiana coach Tom Crean in a press release. “This is an outstanding field to compete against and should present a tremendous challenge.”

Indiana will play either Kansas State or Boston University in the second round, depending on the outcome of the first game.

Dayton, Georgia Tech, George Mason and Villanova are also participating in the tournament.

Nine of the 12 games will appear on either ESPNU or ESPN2.puerto-rico-tip-off-bracket-20091

  1. while I was sad to see him go, defended him and will miss him…I hope we kick his teams butt!!!

  2. Good grief Kevin, does it serve any purpose to hope he’s sorry he left? Will that make him reappear on the IU roster??

If we beat Ole Miss, it will be a really solid victory. Compared to last year when we got clobbered in Maui, doing well in Puerto Rico would be wonderful. I think the Hoosiers will have a shot!

  3. eric, KevinK is a great guy with thoughtful posts and he was just kidding (see smiling face). Loosen up man!

  4. Are you kidding me? The crimson and cream are gonna win this thing. While it’s going to be competitive, there are a couple of other tourneys with deeper talent. So don’t get too excited hoosier heartland when this happens, but it will serve them well in March. Yes, we are going back this year, gentlemen.
