Morgan commits to DePaul

Moses Morgan, the son of Winston, a former Hoosier, committed to DePaul today.

Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal Tweeted the news, and WeAreDePaul.com also had the news (Scout.com subscription required on the latter).

That leaves Josh Selby, the No. 4 guard in the county, and Brandon Mobley as the two targets remaining on our working list of 2010 prospects. Indiana has an in-home visit scheduled today with Selby (Dustin Dopirak talked to Selby’s mother yesterday about where Indiana stands), and Mobley has a final three of Indiana, Cincinnati and South Carolina.

Mobley is an interesting case. South Carolina took two commitments yesterday, and now has five coming in for 2010. And former IU target Stacey Poole is scheduled to pick this week between Kentucky and South Carolina. Not sure of the Gamecocks’ scholarship situation, and could not find any help online, but the roster lists five seniors on this year’s team.

  1. FWIW Jody Demling reports that he thinks IU never offered Moses and that both sides ended up thinking it was not a good fit. Makes you wonder how all the excitement got started in the first place.

Good luck Moses. When I see a DePaul game on the tube I’ll watch awhile to see how you’re doing.

  2. GFDave,

Morgan told us he had an offer when we went to see him in Akron at the LeBron James Skills Academy.

Hugh and I also saw Selby play that day, and he was definitely in the second tier of talent.

The first tier consisted of . . . Michael Gilchrist.

As for Morgan, he seemed to be a big, versatile guard. He didn’t stand out — how can you when you’re playing with and against the top players in the country? — and I think it would have taken him some time to have an impact at IU. At DePaul he’ll have a clearer path to not only playing time, but a prominent role in the offense.
