St. John’s at IU soccer

FINAL: DOUBLE OVERTIME
A lot of tired players but no scoring as this one ends. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

END OF FIRST OVERTIME
One shot apiece for each team. St. John’s actually had a few scary moments there, but did not convert. An IU corner went begging as time ran out. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

END OF REGULATION
The Indiana defense has really had a stranglehold on this game, but the Hoosier offense has not created much other than a few chancy blasts in the second half. IU has a 14-6 advantage in shots. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

SECOND HALF
12:18: Second verse same as the first, only scoring chances a little bit worse. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

10 minutes into the second stanza now and neither team has had a real dangerous shot on goal. Indiana continues to carry the better possession. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

HALFTIME
Several golden opportunities for IU, but the Hoosiers can’t get one in the net. Daniel Kelly had a header off a corner blocked off the far post, and Tommy Meyer’s had a crack at one in front of the goal off a corner scrum that was blocked away. Indiana has outshot St. John’s, 7-3. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

FIRST HALF
18:44: Darren Yeagle, Neil Wilmarth and freshman Kevin Bick are the first IU subs into the game. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

25:00: No score so far. Hoosiers have had a couple of chances, while St. John’s has yet to get a shot. This one’s already chippy as you might expect, but no cards to this point. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

We’re just getting under way here. South grad Caleb Konstanski is replacing Ofori Sarkodie in the lineup for IU. Sarkodie must sit this one out due to a red card in last season’s finale vs. St. John’s. Luis Soffner gets the start in goal, while Will Bruin and Alec Purdie will be at forward. Konstanski is starting in the midfield along with Cameron Jordan, Andy Adlard, Eric Alexander and Lee Hagedorn. Rich Balchan will drop back as a defender with Tommy Meyer and Daniel Kelly. HOOSIERS 0, RED STORM 0

PREGAME
I’m here at Armstrong Stadium for tonight’s opener, but the Hoosiers are on hold as No. 12 Notre Dame and No. 3 Wake Forest enter the second overtime period tied at 1. When they finally get done, it will be No. 5 St. John’s against No. 7 Indiana in near-perfect conditions. I’ll let you know when we get a final here.
UPDATE: It’s a final, Irish and Demon Deacons tie, 1-1. Hoosiers and Red Storm to follow. Stay tuned here or check out http://twitter.com/JPPrice

  1. If the score was 0-0 @ the start and @ the end, did a game actually take place? Some consider this a good game…
