Council demoted

Cornerback Richard Council’s recent performance as a replacement for starter Donnell Jones hasn’t gone well, and now he’s lost that spot. Council was not listed as a starter on Monday’s depth chart. Junior Adrian Burks has replaced him as the starter opposite Ray Fisher.

Council was beaten for long touchdowns against both Illinois and Northwestern, when Wildcats wideout Andrew Brewer torched him for a 51-yard score that put the Wildcats back within two points before Stefan Demos’ game-winning field goal.

There was little other change on the depth chart. Jones, injured linebacker Will Patterson and safety Chris Adkins are still off the depth chart, making it likely they won’t play this week. Right guard Pete Saxon, who missed Saturday’s game with an injured ankle, is still listed as a second-stringer. Deonte Mack, who had been listed as a backup defensive tackle in recent weeks, is back on the depth chart as a defensive end.

  1. BIG surprise (yeah, right)! I think we all knew that NW was going to go straight after Council when Ray Fisher got nicked up and had to sit out a play…that is, everyone but the IU coaching staff. I know when Fisher went out I was yelling at my TV, “they’re going to go after Council…drop back into coverage!”

  2. Should have happened several weeks ago. Maybe too late now. Unfortunately, I don’t know if we have anyone who can do better. Hope so. But, this really is a month or so too late.

  3. Wisco,

I am like you don’t know if we have anyone that can do better, but I am sure we don’t have anyone that could do worse.

  4. Right. You and I could do it and the end result wouldn’t be much different. Ok, maybe an exaggeration, but the point remains. I get the feeling that we don’t have anyone who could do that much better or they would have made this change long ago. But, yes, I doubt anyone could do any worse either.
