Hoosiers exorcise Demons

Indiana got a win it needed to have, beating Northwestern State 90-72 in a game sandwiched in between the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament and brutal non-conference games against Maryland, Pittsburgh and Kentucky.

The Hoosiers were playing an athletically inferior opponent, but still showed significant improvement since Puerto Rico. They held the Demons to 40.4 percent shooting and caused 23 turnovers. Freshman forwards Christian Watford and Derek Elston both looked much more comfortable, with Watford scoring 17 points and Elston scoring 12. Freshman guard Maurice Creek tied Watford for the team lead with 17 points. Senior guard Devan Dumes had 11 and Jeremiah Rivers had six points, seven rebounds and a game-high 10 assists.

  1. Whatever happened to the teams being out on the floor during the National Anthem? In years past they have always been out there for it, for some reason it has changed. I must say, that I believe the teams should be out there for the National Anthem.

As for the game, I thought Elston, Creek, and Watford played very well. Rivers has to stop turning the ball over; Jones too. Unforced turnovers are killing us.

  2. I would like to think that IU can pull off one win in its next 3 games. But somehow, thanks to Bill Lynch, I have been conditioned to believe that nothing beyond the utterly predictable will happen. Lynch has set the tone for underachieving Moral Victories for this University, and I’m afraid we will see more of the same… A 10-point loss to Pitt, a 5 point loss to Maryland after blowing a 20-point lead, and a loss to Kentucky in which we “fight hard,” at least harder than last year. Agghh.

  3. Yes — compare with the gigabytes Dopirak needs these days with Tom Crean to get basic the same message across.

  4. re Du fuss: Just wondering why there isn’t a box score with the game article every week?

I’m just wondering why there’s no writing a newspaper sports story and/or commentary after the IU games by the Herald Times Sports Staff?

  5. Du Fuss,

The box scores are linked from all of the game stories over on HoosiersHQ. We can post them here if you so desire.

    Tsao Tsu,

    What are you talking about?
