IU women’s basketball sign and win

A little women’s basketball update here. Indiana won its season opener Friday night at Memphis, 78-74.

The Hoosiers built a 13-point first-half lead that dwindled to six by halftime and never got back in double digits. As a matter of fact, IU fell behind by five at 73-68 with 2:41 left. But the Hoosiers rallied back for the win. The home opener is Sunday at 2 p.m. against IUPUI.

On the future Hoosier front, www.wane.com has confirmed (with picture) that Fort Wayne Concordia standout Andrea Newbauer has officially signed to play for Indiana beginning in 2010. Newbauer ranks as the No. 50 point guard in the country according to ESPN HoopGurlz.

The Hoosiers have one other scholarship available, which it appears they will use, but no confirmation on that yet. Stay tuned.
