Polk on depth chart, Fisher isn’t

Indiana fans, Monday’s depth chart has good news and bad news for you.

The good news is Nick Polk, who missed Saturday’s game with an ankle injury suffered in Thursday’s practice, is back on the depth chart as the starting free safety. The bad news is Ray Fisher’s name is nowhere to be found, either at cornerback or kick/punt returner. Fisher suffered a knee injury on the opening kickoff of Saturday’s game and didn’t return. Adrian Burks is listed ahead of Richard Council in his place at cornerback. Running back Demetrius McCray is listed as the other kick returner with Tandon Doss and Polk is listed as the second punt returner behind Doss.

Linebacker Will Patterson and cornerback Donnell Jones are both listed as starters after going into last week questionable with injuries.

Jerimy Finch, who didn’t make the trip last week because of a hamstring injury, is not on the depth chart his week either. Collin Taylor and Matt Kurz are the backup safeties behind Polk and Austin Thomas. The depth chart follows.

  1. Burks looked OK, but needs to work on tackling. Wonder if Fish will be back at all? Doss needs to catch the ball and GO, quit dancing and GO! Glad to have Patterson back.

  2. I don’t like Collin Taylor as a backup…I like him as a starter! He made some fantastic plays out there, making tackles, getting two interceptions, forcing the fumble on special teams…I feel like he did more in this one game than Polk has done all season. Sure he fell behind on the two long TDs…but that was an error in execution by the entire defense.

  3. That’s tough that Fisher will be out. Our ccornerbacks have not looked good this year and this will surely make it harder for them.

Obviously it’s too late to play him, but has anyone heard about the progression of Lawrence Barnett? He could start next year….

  4. What will hurt even more is not having the field position Ray’s returns gave us to launch a successful offensive possession. I think we are now w/o our most valuable player.

  5. Time for a fresh approach to the game.

We’ve already tried playing with our best players on the field. We’ve tried getting a big lead. We’ve tried producing handfuls of turnovers.

None of those approaches have worked. Maybe it’s time for something new. I’m up for it.

This week, let’s try to win with a few second-stringers in key positions. Let’s allow Wisc to build up a 10 point lead going into the half. Let’s turn the ball over to them 5 times. Let’s score very little at the beginning and a lot at the end. Who knows, maybe it will provide us with a different result.
