  1. Korman, et al-

Any news on the addition(s) to the conference? A rumor I heard is that an announcement is imminent.

    Go Hoosiers!

  2. Wisco,

I’ve seen that rumor making its way round the Internets, but I can’t find anything suggest it is remotely true. The Big Ten originally said it would undergo an internal investigation into the possibility of adding more teams, and that it would take up to 18 months. If they’ve already decided and come to terms with another school, then things have really escalated quickly.

  3. It won’t take 18 months to decide whether its desirable or not to add a school. The B10 can do its part of the feasibility and cost/benefit stuff in a short matter of time. Its not hard to make their projections under the various scenarios. This may have already been done before the announcement was made.

What will take longer is the prospective member’s end of it. They have to do the pro forma financials, schedules, transition plans, etc. They have to deal with their current athletic affiliates. Then they have to present that stuff to their Board of Trustees, President, etc. and go through all of that approval process. Then, of course, the B10 has to provide its approval formally.

  4. Your assessment makes sense to me, Chris. My “sources” were second-hand, but came from someone within the Michigan State Athletic Dept. and someone from Purdue. That said, while I know the person who told me these ties, I take it somewhat with a grain of salt. However, I didn’t even know this was circulating online. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire?

Also, same sources said there’s talk of adding Pitt soon and two more not far after. Seemed a stretch to me, and I didn’t really like it, but thought I’d throw it out there.
