Las Vegas update

For those who haven’t seen this already, the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier is reporting that Northern Iowa will be playing in the Las Vegas Basketball Classic right before Christmas along with Indiana, New Mexico and Colorado.

Indiana coach Tom Crean announced during the Puerto Rico Classic in November that the Hoosiers were going to play in the tournament. The Hoosiers will play four games, two likely at Assembly Hall the week before Christmas. The WCF Courier said Northern Iowa’s games will be on Dec. 17 and 19, so Indiana’s would likely be in the same time frame. The two games in Vegas, the Courier reports, will be Dec. 22 and 23.

So yeah, that means Indiana could be playing Steve Alford and that Steve McClain could go against his old school in the same tournament.

  1. If you’re asking about transferring out, Idlewild, it appears surprisingly unlikely at this point. I thought someone would leave, but with three days left in April, everyone is still present and accounted for. Usually, those who are going to leave pull the trigger by now.

  2. Well, as New Mexico should be a pretty good favorite, Coach Alford will have a lot of pressure on this one. A loss would leave some egg on his face.

  3. I would like nothing more than to beat a ranked team. I am sure Coach Alford will have them ready though.
    Crean VS. Alford….

  4. I’m there! Orleans Arena is only a mile or so off of the strip and runs a free shuttle back and forth.

    Hoosiers storming Vegas!

  5. I’ve stayed at the Orleans and it’s pretty nice. It is a ways from both the strip and downtown but the Orleans itself is okay. It’s reasonably priced.

  6. Kind of off topic, but is anybody else as intrigued by this Kevin Noreen kid as I am?
    I say sign him up.

  7. The kids stats are mindboggling. He plays against a lot of small schools, but still performs very well against the larger schools he has played as well. If we could land him, it could end up being the steal of this class.
Would Negedu impact this kids decision or our ability to take him? I asked earlier if Negedu would be a walk on or scholarship and don’t believe anybody answered.

  8. Who is the 7’1″ juco kid coming in to take a visit this week? I just read it on Rivals.com. If anybody has any info at all that would be great.

  9. H-T guys, I’d appreciate a recruiting roundup article. I don’t follow enough to subscribe to any sites, and it’s getting a little hard to keep track of everyone IU is after right now.

As I’ve mentioned before, I live in Nashville, TN, and this morning on talk radio they were reporting that Negedu ‘might end up at Indiana.’ They were talking about taking the risk, being the school that would do it, etc., but did not say anything negative about Indiana in that respect. But the whole angle of the report was that Negedu wants to play and the school they felt okay with identifying was IU.
