Say Aloha to Taufa

An IU press release today announced that the Indiana women’s basketball team has signed 6-foot forward Milika Taufa of Lahaina, Hawaii to a letter of intent for the 2010-11 season.

Taufa averaged 15.3 points and 9.1 rebounds in leading Lahainaluna High School to the Hawaii Division I state championship. She scored 26 points in the title game and rallied her team from 11 down with a minute to play in the third quarter with 15 minutes in the final nine minutes. She also had nine rebounds and five blocks to earn Most Outstanding Player honors.

Here’s video of Taufa from the 2009 state tournament. The best part comes at the :41-second mark when she levels an opponent with a screen, then rolls to the free-throw line and knocks down the 15-footer as the buzzer sounds to end the quarter.
