Muhammad also likely out

Bill Lynch said on the Big Ten teleconference Monday afternoon that wide receiver Dre Muhammad is also likely to sit out Thursday’s opener against Towson. Muhammad has been out for most of the past week with an ankle injury, so he will be sitting out the game along with preseason All-Big Ten pick Tandon Doss.

Lynch said he’s still trying to figure out if and when to play true freshman Kofi Hughes. He has been practicing with the second team and will be a part of the travel roster, but he still has a cast on his hand. Lynch said whether Hughes plays in the opener or not will be determined “by the flow of the game.”

If Hughes doesn’t play, expect former quarterback Connor Creevey to see some action in four and five receiver sets. He moved to the position during camp and has shown a good understanding at the position. With Doss out, redshirt freshman Duwyce Wilson becomes the third starter. With Muhammad also out, redshirt freshman Jamonne Chester becomes the fourth wide receiver. If Hughes can’t play, Creevey is the next in line.

  1. Hey Jimmy,
O’Connor and Young have actually been out of practice, Young for the last few days, O’Connor for about two weeks. O’Connor has a shoulder injury which required surgery. I’m not sure what Young has. So they will almost definitely redshirt. Drane has been hurt, but I think he will be available on Thursday. I’ll post the injury report update when it’s released tomorrow.
