Goff sets visit for Oct. 2

Robert Goff, the 6-foot-9, 240-pound former Broad Ripple star, has set his official visit to Indiana for Oct. 2 according to his advisor and former AAU coach, Jason Knight.

“Obviously with them, he’s deciding to take an official visit, so he has strong interest,” Knight said. “Where it gets challenging, is you only get five and you want to make the most of those, so you want to make sure there’s interest, and he’s decided to do that.  So there’s strong interest there.”

Indiana coach Tom Crean and assistant Steve McClain went to see Kansas Thursday to see Goff, who is going into his sophomore year at Hutchinson Community College. Thursday was the first day of the NCAA’s open contact period.

Goff is taking a visit to Oklahoma this weekend and Ohio State on Sept. 24. He is also still considering Oklahoma State, Auburn, Iowa State, Wichita State, South Florida, Houston and Western Kentucky. Knight said he expects Goff to take all five of his allotted official visits before making a decision.

  1. Goff is a big strong kid, a presence in the paint who would be an asset to any team in the Big 10, and certainly a rebuilding IU that’s a little thin there (unless GMM is a lot better than what I’m expecting). I’d bet he’s not a “backup-for-Zeller” option. Would be smart to tie this guy down.

  2. Let me just say, I just read a quote that will leave an eternal smile on my face (taken from a dispute between two bloggers on the Hoosier Hype):

Wear your mark of Zeller as the tattoo on your butt cheek to your next Swiss Army Knife gang fight at the Denny’s parking lot…I’ll just come with my fists of words and wear the name of Indiana in my heart.

There is magic in those words.

  3. Haha that second post is somebody else posting not really me! Zeller is a giant target and need for IU as everybody including Crean knows. JDavis is the one to avoid like the plague, which everybody also knows, even including Crean again which is why IU is off him.

  4. not to mention, why didn’t we go after spencer turner? his 3 point shot would kill jordy’s, his acrobatic moves are something of epic proportions and his driving ability is exactly what we need… unbelievable miss by coach crean

Well, so far he’s only got offers from Belmont and IPFW. Looks like a LOT of “unbelievable misses.”

  6. The fact that you would rather focus on the one decent player Crean didn’t recruit, instead of the dozens that he’s recruiting now, is a reflection of your absolute refusal to be anything other than negative. Further, it’s become apparent that you make it a priority to search for any negative in a given situation. It’s all too predictable.

You can say you’re a fan all you want, but at some point, even if you don’t like the coach, you’ve gotta get on board and actually be supportive.
